“Trauma” describes the ongoing mind-body distress caused by highly stressful, scary, or upsetting experiences

  • feeling intense, overwhelming emotions that are hard to control or cope with

  • feeling worried, on-edge, tense, panicked, or afraid

  • feeling numb, disconnected, or distant from yourself, other people, or your surroundings

  • flashbacks (feeling like you’re re-living a traumatic experience), intrusive negative thoughts

  • sleep issues like insomnia or nightmares

  • avoiding people, places, or things that remind you of the painful experiences

  • physical pain and discomfort (like headaches, stomach problems, muscle tension, shakiness)

Mind-body therapy approaches help you guide your nervous system out of fight-or-flight mode and into rest and peace
